《梅花三弄》《Three Stanzas of Plum-blossoms》
Originally a piece of flute music composed by Heng Yi, the Sage of Flute. Composed of three stanzas in the tone of plum-blossoms, it was extremely ingenious and was popular from the Northern and Southern Dynasties to Tang Dynasty. Afterwards, it was rearranged into qin-music by Yan Shigu, which was listed in 《Mysterious and Secret Tunes》 in Ming Dynasty (1425) and became one the most important famous music of Guqin. Skills of Bo Ya by Yang Lun (1609) described it as follows: “plum is the freshest in flowers and qin is the freshest among all the instruments. Depict the freshest flowers with the freshest music and the music must by noble and unsullied”.
